Mango Street Dreaming is devoted to preserving and celebrating Latin American cultures in the United States and opening up pathways for all immigrant students to access higher education if they desire. It all sums up to remembering our roots, living in the present, and dreaming big. Mango Street Dream offers education-based scholarships for immigrant students enrolled in trade school, a two or four-year college/university, or in their last year of high school.
This page owes its name to Sandra Cisneros’ The House on Mango Street. This book follows Esperanza and her experiences growing up as a young girl on Mango Street. She dreams of moving away as an escape, but she later realizes how her time on Mango Street will always remain a part of who she is.
Growing up as a Cuban immigrant in Louisville, Kentucky, The House on Mango Street brought out a sense of nostalgia as I thought back to my own childhood. I was fortunate to have others invest and believe in me.
Now, it's time to invest and believe in others.
